01 December 2006
The Swiss-born cellist Marie-Stéphanie Janecek, a Foundation-supported artist, performed Antonin Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B minor with the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, Bloomington, Indiana, on 1 December, 2006. Ms Janecek is presently studying in Bloomington at Indiana University under the renowned cellist Janos Starker.
The conductor was the Foundation's Artistic Director, Geoffrey Simon, who formed the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra in 1969. Maestro Simon's continuing contact with the orchestra, including recently appearing with it as a guest conductor for its 35th anniversary concert, led to Ms Janecek's performance, under the auspices of the Swiss Global Artistic Foundation.
We are pleased to announce that the performance was an outstanding success.
