Compagnie Igokat

Biography

Compagnie Igokat was formed in 2006 by the dancers Kathryn Bradney and Igor Piovano. Other members of the company include dancers, who, like Ms Bradney and Mr Piovano, were long-standing principals with the Béjart Ballet Lausanne. The company's repertory is choreographed exclusively by Kathryn Bradney and Igor Piovano. It embraces neo-classical, modern and contemporary dance.

Compagnie Igokat made its debut in April 2006 with an evening of dance, Carta Bianca, commissioned by the Teatro Comunale in Bra, Italy. Its success resulted in an invitation to repeat the performance in Mondovi, Italy, and an engagement by the Polytecnic School of Architecture in Turin to choreograph and film a dance sequence exemplifying the relationship between ballet, music and architecture.

The idea for Compagnie Igokat arose in October 2005, when Kathryn Bradney and Igor Piovano created choreography for a musical soirée in Geneva, produced by the Anglo-Suisse Artistic Foundation for Investec Trust. The combination of two dancers and two marimba players was intimate and effective, and it prompted the formation of Compagnie Igokat as a small, highly creative and flexible dance company. It was then a natural step to expand the concept to Centre Igokat. Based in Lausanne, Centre Igokat offers a wide range of classes to professional dancers, adult non-professionals and children. It also is engaged in dance-related film production.
