Erwin Belakowitsch baritone

Biography

Erwin Belakowitsch has been a member of the ensemble at the Südthüringisches Staatstheater in Meiningen since 2006. The path for his musical career was paved in childhood as a Vienna Choirboy. He studied voice with Professor Ralf Döring at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Lied and Oratorium with KS Robert Holl and participated in masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbaender.

At age 22 Mr Belakowitsch made his debut as Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) at the Niederösterreichisches Landestheater. Tours and guest appearances have taken him to Japan, Korea and South America. After performing at the Wiener Kammeroper and Theater Baden, and prior to graduating from University, Mr Belakowitsch sang the role of Figaro in Rossini's The Barber of Seville at the Theater Ulm. He continued on as a steady member of the ensemble for four years.

During this period the baritone sang significant roles in operas and operettas, gave guest appearances at summer music festivals in Austria and Germany and won prizes in international competitions. Mr Belakowitsch has appeared on television and radio productions for Radio Bavaria, MDR, WDR and ORF.
