Udo Repsold Westphal was born in Hamburg, Germany and attended the Christianeum School and the University of Hamburg. He spent most of his adult life in Latin America, Canada and since 1987 in Switzerland. A senior executive with broad international background in general management, marketing, business development, manufacturing and strategic planning. Industry experience with two of the world's leading multinational consumer product companies in Latin America, North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia.

He held various management positions for Philip Morris International in Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Costa Rica, Canada and Switzerland as director of manufacturing, Vice-president, General Manager und Area Director for Eastern Europe. Since 1995 he had worldwide responsibilities for the Japanese Tobacco Monopoly as a Vice-president of their international division.
