Ms Cohen was born in Monaco in 1980 of Russian parents. She was accepted into the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris at the age of 15 to study with pianist Bruno Rigutto. While there she won First Prize in Piano, First Prize in Chamber Music and the Diploma of Superior Formation. As part of the Postgraduate Cycle she recorded a recital for broadcast on the French music channel Mezzo.
Ms Cohen has received numerous awards over the years, including the Honour Prize at the International Duo Competition in Vierzon, Second Prize at the International Young Pianist Competition in Meknès (Morocco), Second Prize at the Scholarship Competition of the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe, the Rina Menashe Prize at the Tel Hai Festival (Israel), the Second and Special Prizes at the International San Remo Piano Competition (Italy) and First Prize at the Music Competition of the Zonta-club de France.
Vanya Cohen was selected to perform in master classes for Leon Fleisher, Paul Badura-Skoda, Maria Joao Pires and Alicia de Larocha. She was in the last class of students privileged to study under the late Lazar Berman, at the prestigious Accademia Pianistica Internazionale Incontri col Maestro in Imola (Italy).
Since 2003, Vanya Cohen has been supported by the Banque Populaire Foundation and the Swiss Global Artistic Foundation.
Recent appearances by Ms Cohen include the Ars Terras Festival (France), Tel Hai Festival (Israel), Mannes Festival (New York) and the International Music Festival of the Kremlin (Russia). She has performed as a concerto soloist with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Paris Conservatory Orchestra, the Orchestra of Romania Di Craiova, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, the Regional Orchestra of Cannes and the San Remo Philharmonic Orchestra.
